It’s said a picture says a thousand words.
Well, this one says nearly a $1 million dollars in college education. Meet Maplewood High School seniors Abbey Khounmy, Vakia Robinson, Doresha Robinson and Martin Torres (Maria Lopez not pictured). Under the guidance of JTG Specialist Reginald Smith, far right, those five JTG students earned Bridges to Belmont scholarships. At nearly $46,000 per year for tuition, the math reveals $920,000 for five students at Belmont University. How about a round of congratulations!
This amazing opportunity is made possible by Denise and Milton Johnson, who donated $10 million dollars help sustain the Bridges to Belmont Scholarship Fund. Milton Johnson‘s back story is among the main reasons behind it. As the HCA Chief Executive Officer told me a couple of years ago, “I would have been a JTG student if it was around in my day.”
I just learned a JTG Stratford STEM Magnet High School (Johnson’s high school alma mater) student also earned a Bridges to Belmont Scholarship. I’m gathering more information on that. Maplewood JTG specialist Reginald Smith and Stratford JTG specialist Daniel Smith deserve credit for these achievements, along with other administrators and faculty members who having helped guide these students toward graduation and amazing post-secondary opportunities.
This is a very good day for JTG.
It’s a great day for six high school students who have overcome barriers to graduation and now looking forward to becoming Bruins!
